Can't translate advantages
August 12, 2018
Deftly's scoreline read 7/0/1 as Golden Guardians fell to Clutch Gaming on Sunday.
Despite coming out of the level 1 madness with two kills, and having an advantageous lane matchup as Xayah/Rakan into Ezreal/Braum, Deftly simply couldn't pull together a win for his team. He and Matt spent most of the laning phase pushed in without gaining a CS advantage, nearly losing the turret before being bailed out. As the game drew on, Deftly continued to pick up kills, but while he managed to do it without dying, it didn't translate to teamfight damage. 7/0/1 is a surprisingly good score for a loss, but it's also surprisingly good for how mediocre Deftly played in this game.
Tries his best in loss
August 6, 2018
Deftly earned a 1/0/0 KDA on Varus during his loss to 100T on Sunday.
After his team began falling behind against 100T, Deftly did all that he could in order to find his way back into the game. Farming up early, he was able to find a small edge in lane, but unfortunately could not find any sort of an opening. As the game developed into fights and skirmishes, he focused primarily on keeping himself safe. Though he was able to remain deathless, he constantly joined fights too late to get anything done. This allowed the enemy team to run away with their lead. Claiming back-to-back skirmish victories, 100 Thieves found a 33-minute game win.
Unable to get things going on Swain
July 24, 2018
Deftly earned a 1/2/3 KDA on Swain during his team's defeat against Echo Fox on Sunday.
Deftly did not have a good performance during his team's loss against Echo Fox. Despite his team starting off strong, he could not get things going for himself on Swain, finding himself caught out in what would be the start of the enemy team's comeback. Although he found a single kill, he was unable to push his team's advantage in the early game, allowing FOX the opportunity they needed to bring the game back. After losing back-to-back teamfights, his team was ultimately defeated.
Strong showing on Heimerdinger nets win
July 23, 2018
Deftly finished Golden Guardian's victory over Counter Logic Gaming with a 5/0/4 KDA.
Despite having a number of poor performances in recent weeks, Deftly stepped up and carried his team in their victory over CLG. Picking Heimerdinger, he had a quiet start to the game but quickly exploded in teamfights. Although he was focused in these fights, he quickly eliminated key members of the enemy team and positioned safely, allowing him to stay alive while creating a huge impact. Due to his champion's strengths, Golden Guardians was able to utilize him to claim a 20-minute Baron. From then on, the team had no problem taking teamfight victories, allowing them to destroy CLG's base in 32 minutes.
Funnel strategy dissected in loss
July 1, 2018
Deftly's Kai'Sa earned a 3/2/1 KDA in Golden Guardians loss to FlyQuest on Saturday.
The gold funnel strategy that the Golden Guardains ran moved Deftly to the mid/jungler hybrid with Contractz as his support. While Deftly was able to get a CS lead, it meant little when both of the side lanes were losing. Deftly's middle lane control was quickly taken away when FlyQuest began rotating the map and securing objectives. When it started boiling down the 5-vs-5 late game teamfights, Deftly struggled to deal out the damage before being locked down and blown up by a Crowd Control combo. In the final defense, Deftly was forced to cower in the fountain or give up another death.
Receives a funnel in win
June 24, 2018
Deftly tallied a 7/2/4 KDA during Golden Guardians win over Cloud9 on Saturday.
As the recipient of the newfound funnel strategy, Deftly was living right for most of this game. On Kai'Sa, he was roaming all over the map to receive the fruits of his team's labor in an effort to get beefy in a hurry. While that didn't exactly pan out the way he would have liked at first, Golden Guardians kept on grinding and eventually, he grew into a formidable threat that tore through Cloud9 in the ultra late game. He will certainly want to wipe a few moments from his brain -- such as getting deleted by Goldenglue in the mid lane -- but this was largely a successful outing in one of the more inventive gameplans that has come to light so far this split.
Solid play throughout win
June 18, 2018
Deftly earned a 5/0/9 KDA on Ezreal in the Golden Guardians' victory against Team Liquid on Sunday.
Deftly had an easy laning phase, punishing Doublelift's Vladimir in the early levels. The bullying resulted in Deftly picking up some assists early and building a level advantage that let him cruise through the rest of the laning phase. When he grouped up with the rest of the Golden Guardians, Deftly began raking in the kills and assists on his way to a 70 percent kill participation.
Only team member not throwing
March 12, 2018
Deftly ended with a KDA of 2/1/1 as Golden Guardians fell to FlyQuest on Sunday.
Deftly's Caitlyn only managed a marginal CS advantage in this game, but he also made the fewest mistakes of any player on his team. After a strong early game, members of GGS were caught out on multiple occasions, eventually giving the gold lead over to FlyQuest. Deftly was the exception here, as his only death came in the last teamfight of the game, and as such he was the only member of his team to go positive in KDA.
Early kill puts Guardians ahead
February 12, 2018
Deftly went 3/2/4 in Golden Guardians' win over 100 Thieves on Sunday.
Deftly put 100 Thieves on notice from the very start with a first blood just two minutes into the game. That ended up setting the tone for the kind of game that Guardians were going to play, and 100 Thieves simply couldn't respond in any way. Deftly might have taken a couple of rough deaths in the mid game, but it was never enough to truly give 100 Thieves a window back into the game.
Secured only kill for team in loss
February 5, 2018
Deftly posted a 1/3/0 KDA on Kog'Maw in the Golden Guardians' loss to Team Liquid on Sunday.
Deftly kept the CS close throughout the laning phase but wasn't able to get much done in terms of skirmishing. While he managed to trade his life for GGS' only kill in the mid game, there was little that he could do in the later teamfights. There was no safety from Zac's Elastic Slingshot and any teammate that tried to save him would also die. It didn't take long for TL to finish off the Nexus after securing a Baron kill.
Solid play in loss
January 29, 2018
Deftly posted a 2/2/4 KDA on Ezreal in the Golden Guardians' loss to Counter Logic Gaming on Sunday.
Deftly had a slow start but started to show life in the mid-game once he completed a few items. However, the Golden Guardians' teamfight plan became increasingly harder to execute as the game headed late and Deftly struggled to get damage onto the key targets. Deftly wasn't able to carry but his efforts left him with a 100 percent kill participation and second most damage dealt to champions on GG.
Can't find safe space in teamfights late
January 28, 2018
Deftly scored a 8/3/4 KDA on Kalista as the Golden Guardians dropped a game to FlyQuest on Saturday.
The early game is where Deftly's Kalista shined as he rotated around the map picking up kills and knocking down objectives. However, things started to turn late in the game when the GG's were trying to siege FQ's base. While it had been easy for Deftly to stay out of harm's way in the early skirmishes, FlyQuest had plenty of long range engage that bogged him down in Crowd Control late. The Golden Guardians final chance was to secure their third Baron of the game but they immediately lost the ensuing teamfight and dragon to lose all momentum. With Deftly and the other damage dealers stuck respawning, FlyQuest quickly pushed to victory.
Can't do much of anything
January 21, 2018
Deftly ended his LCS debut against Clutch Gaming with a 0/0/2 KDA as Golden Guardians took a loss.
As LCS debuts go, Deftly's wasn't the worst we've seen, but definitely wasn't the best. On Kog'Maw, he kept even in CS early on, but that's about all that can be said for him. He never really got a chance to shine, as he had no frontline and the rest of his team had already fallen far behind by the time any semblance of a real teamfight happened. As far as measuring Deftly's skill at his position, we'll just have to wait a bit longer.
Joins Golden Guardians
November 24, 2017
Deftly has signed with the Golden Guardians, ESPN's Jacob Wolf reported on Friday.
Not much is known of Deftly, who last played with eUnited as the organization navigated the Challenger Series. Alongside a variety of veterans and established starters, Golden Guardians will hope that Deftly could emerge as one of the biggest breakout stars, a la MikeYeung, who parlayed a massive Rookie of the Year split into a contract with Team SoloMid.
