No longer with Schalke 04
November 21, 2018
Vander is a free agent and no longer a part of Schalke 04.
Vander seems committed to playing in the EU LCS, the only place he's known throughout the first five seasons. If that's the case, he should have a couple of available suitors, particularly with a sterling 5.4 KDA across 20 starts for Schalke 04 during the 2018 Summer Split.
Lackluster in loss
September 17, 2018
VandeR earned a series KDA of 1/12/24 during FC Schalke 04's series defeat against G2.
VandeR had an unfortunate showing during his team's series defeat. Starting things off on Alistar, he simply could not find his stride, finding himself caught out time and again in fights that gave the enemy team the edge. Although he was defeated, he had a much better time in the next game, picking Rakan and showing up when it mattered. Roaming early and roaming often, he helped his team secure an early advantage that allowed his team to bounce back and take a 36-minute win. Unfortunately, this was the end of VandeR and Schalke's success. He struggled in the rest of the series to maintain vision control for his team despite winning lane. When his jungler could not find vision and objective control, VandeR could do little more than keep his carries alive. Try as he might, his engagements were lacking, giving up room for the enemy team to close things out. After losing Game 4 at the 32-minute mark, G2 claimed the series victory 3-1, eliminating Schalke from gaining a spot at the 2018 World Championship.
Making plays throughout
August 31, 2018
Vander's scoreline read 5/11/42 by the end of Schalke's win over Vitality on Friday.
It was the play of Schalke's carries that really shined through in this series, but it was Vander who facilitated many of their highlights. In his first two games of the series on Shen, he managed to make effective use of both Stand United and Shadow Dash, helping to win engagements across the map and allow his team to play aggressively as well as starting fights and making picks. His Game 3 Alistar couldn't accomplish much from far behind, but he made up for it in Game 4, where he found fantastic engages on the champion to set his carries up for success in teamfights.
Facilitates team's success with vision
August 25, 2018
Vander earned a series KDA of 2/11/27 during his team's 3-2 series win over Splyce.
Vander was the unsung hero during his team's victory over Splyce. Throughout the entire series, he played selflessly, giving up his own life and resources in favor of keeping his team alive and allowing them to scale up. This meant he ended up racking up a large number of deaths in his team's defeats, but he found an equal amount of success in the victory. Bringing his team crucial vision control in the final two games of the series, he allowed Schalke to defy the odds and bring things back in their favor. In several final teamfights, he brought the necessary crowd control to allow Schalke to close things out. As a result, he moved with his team to secure Game 5 and the 3-2 series victory.
Can't make the plays for Schalke 04
August 18, 2018
0/1/2 was Vander's KDA as Schalke 04 fell to H2k on Saturday.
Schalke 04 may have started to fall behind in the early-to-mid game, but with their area-of-effect damage paired with Vander's Rakan engage, they definitely had a chance to fight back into it. Unfortunately, H2k's split-push tactics made a 5-vs-5 impossible to find until H2k were already far ahead, and Vander never found a solid engage. As such, there wasn't much of anything for him to do in this game, and he accomplished almost nothing.
Strong roams nets win
August 5, 2018
Vander earned a 1/0/9 KDA on Alistar during his team's victory over Misfits.
Throughout the entire game against Misfits, Vander had a jaw-dropping performance that resulted in his team's swift victory. From the very start of the game, Vander was focused on roaming and buying advantages for the rest of his team. Finding himself constantly creating picks for his team, Vander was able to find map control for S04 early on. As the game progressed, he never slowed down, focusing on forcing skirmishes whenever possible. This allowed the rest of his team to dominate Misfits, as he landed his combo time and again on key members of the enemy team. After engaging several teamfights, Vander was able to find a final fight for his team, closing the game out in 33 minutes.
Strong showing on Braum nets win
July 21, 2018
Vander earned a 1/2/2 KDA on Braum throughout his team's victory over the Unicorns of Love.
Vander had a quiet performance during his team's game against UoL. With a funnel strategy, he was focused primarily on keeping his bottom laner alive. With the enemy team picking up several advantages early, Vander was quickly put on protection duty rather than engaging. Thankfully, this worked out off the back of his team's dominate funneling mid laner. As a series of skirmishes erupted, Vander was able to protect his carries, laying down his life in order to secure his team's success. As his team took back-to-back teamfights to claim victory, Vander's crowd control was extremely useful to finding the 35-minute victory.
Strong initiations result in win
July 20, 2018
Vander earned a 1/3/8 KDA on Alistar during his team's victory over H2K.
Although he had a slow early game, Vander's Alistar proved to be crucial for his team's success against H2K. Finding kills in the mid game onto key targets and facilitating his Yasuo's ability to hit his ultimate on key targets, Vander quickly brought his team into the driver's seat. Although things got shaky and H2K turned things around after a poor Baron call, Vander didn't slow down, constantly looking for key engagements. Most importantly, he found the engages that he wanted. Allowing Nukeduck to shred the enemy team while knocked up, Vander's engagements were critical to his team's success. Though he died time and again for his efforts, the death's resulted in his team picking up multiple kills. As a result, S04 found several teamfight victories, closing out the game in 38 minutes.
Plays well in swapped role
January 19, 2018
Vander finished Day 1 of the EU LCS with a 5/1/5 KDA as Varus.
Vander was forced to play AD carry as normal marksman Upset was forced to miss Day 1 due to illness. Despite falling behind in CS early, Vander ended the game involved in 10 of 14 kills and finished with the second-highest kill total in the game with five. He picked up a big triple kill during a 3-vs-5 fight in the mid game en route to helping Schalke end the game.
Coming back to Schalke 04 for 2018
November 23, 2017
Vander has signed on with Schalke 04 Esports for the 2018 season, the team announced Tuesday.
Vander is coming back to Schalke 04 after a six-month stint with Team Vitality for the Summer Split. He joined Schalke in January when the team embarked on its journey back into the EU LCS, but when the team failed to qualify for the Summer Split, Vander moved on with Team Vitality. After a rough split with Vitality, Vander is looking to start over new with this roster. Time will tell if this roster will have what it takes to compete with the best that EU has to offer.
Spin to...lose
August 14, 2017
Vander went 14/17/12 as Vitality went down 2-0 to Splyce on Sunday.
Every member of both teams took this series as an opportunity to have some fun, and no one was having more fun than Vander's Garen early on in Game 1. In the bot lane, some early ganks as well as some fantastic hooks from Steeelback's Blitzcrank lended Vander a handful of early kills, and he ran with them, putting out tons of damage and being the last one in the action-packed game to earn a death. However, Vander couldn't do much against the Lulu-buffed AD carries of Splyce late. In Game 2, Vander had significantly less fun on Twisted Fate. He didn't look bad on the champion, but his whole team was run over, and he didn't get the chance to do much.
Gets team rolling in Game 1
July 24, 2017
Vander finished with a 2/4/13 scoreline by the end of Vitality's Saturday 1-2 loss to G2.
Vander was a huge part of Vitality's win in Game 1 on Tahm Kench, starting with helping Steeelback's Ashe get a CS lead. Afterwards, his Abyssal Voyages, paired with Steeelback's Ashe Arrows, got his team numerous picks to help snowball to a win. Unfortunately, neither his Game 2 Alistar nor his Game 3 Lulu could find nearly the same success, as his team fell too far behind to be protected.
Can't come to the rescue
July 16, 2017
Vander's overall KDA was 1/7/7 by the end of Vitality's 0-2 loss to Fnatic on Saturday.
On Tahm Kench for both games against Fnatic, Vander simply couldn't get all that much done. His Devour wasn't remotely enough to save his teammates from the multiple fed members of Fnatic in Game 1, and he didn't make any plays either. He did a bit better in Game 2, using Abyssal Voyage well to help secure two kills early on, but fell off from there in the loss.
Supports Vitality in winning effort
July 13, 2017
Vander ended Vitality's 2-1 win over NiP with a 3/4/16 combined KDA.
Vander finished Game 1 with a 1/0/6 KDA as Tahm Kench. He was unkillable, involved in seven of Vitality's 12 kills and finishing with the second highest assist total with six. In Game 2, Vander used Thresh to earn a 1/4/2 KDA. He had 100 percent kill participation, but Vitality's three kills weren't enough to close out the sweep. In Game 3, Vander used Braum to earn a 1/0/8 KDA. He was unkillable again, finishing the final game involved in nine of 15 kills and finishing one assist behind Djoko and Steeelback for the team lead.
Average at best
June 22, 2017
Vander finished Vitality's 1-2 loss to Misfits with a 2/12/24 combined KDA.
Vander finished Game 1 with a 0/4/2 KDA and 100 percent kill participation as Thresh. In Game 2, Vander played better as Thresh, ending with a 2/5/16 KDA. He was involved in 18 of Vitality's 26 kills, helping his team force Game 3. In Game 3, Vander used Braum to end with a 0/3/6 KDA. He ended with 60 percent kill participation as Vitality fell behind early and never really recovered.
